Correspondent counsel for foreign law firms in the Dominican Republic

Firms in the United States, Puerto Rico and Europe entrust us with their Dominican matters because we speak their language, understand their system and respond with the service standard their clients expect.

A correspondent who knows both systems

When a lawsuit, a transaction or an investigation touches the Dominican Republic, the foreign firm needs local counsel who explains Dominican law in terms its client understands, delivers documents usable in its jurisdiction and respects its deadlines and budget. Our partners practice Dominican and United States law, with offices in Santo Domingo, Raleigh and San Juan, and work with firms in New York, Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico, Spain and the United Kingdom.

We bill hourly or by matter, with an advance budget, and report in English or Spanish as the referring firm prefers.

  • Service of process in Puerto Rico through Diligencias Legales de Puerto Rico (Emplazador.com)

Service of process

We are the reference correspondent for serving foreign judicial documents in the Dominican Republic: our alguaciles cover all 31 provinces and the Distrito Nacional, and we deliver returns, certified translations and affidavits ready for the rendering court. For Puerto Rico, our unit Diligencias Legales de Puerto Rico serves process under the Puerto Rico Rules of Civil Procedure and publishes two free treatises on the subject at Emplazador.com.

How to start

Send a description of the matter, the available documents and the court deadline to Info@VSP.com.do or, for service, to Alguacil@VSP.com.do. We reply with a quote and an estimated timeline within the same business day. We accept engagement letters in English and conflicts are checked before any matter is accepted.

Frequently asked questions

Do you issue legal opinions in English usable before U.S. courts?
Yes. Our opinions are written in English, cite Dominican statute and case law, and may be accompanied by an affidavit of the signing attorney when the court requires it.
How do you check conflicts of interest?
Before accepting the matter we screen the parties against our client and matter database and confirm the absence of conflict in writing.
Can you coordinate directly with the end client?
We work as the referring firm prefers: through its attorneys or directly with the end client under its supervision.
